My dear friend Joanna Kirkpatrick died April 7, 2017. When we lived together in the 1980s, she often talked about her research in Ludhiana. I have sent a donation in her memory. She was a blessed influence on me and many others. She is missed.

Looking through this website brings back a lot of memories from many years ago when my father, Dr. W. J. Virgin, was involved with the process of upgrading the hospital to a full teaching college. It is great to see it progressing so well. My brother, Bill Virgin, brings back news to us, in Canada, about the College and hospital when he returns from his periodic visits there. Keep up the good work.

Looking at these photos of the hospital I’m astonished at how it has grown from the days when I was doing a study in the Gynae Ward of Old Miss Brown’s hospital. That was in the year 1965-66. Also shocked at how Ludhiana has expanded. I read the tributes to Dr. Beryl Howie. She was running that ward when I was there. I published my research as a book, titled the Sociology of an Indian Hospital Ward, in 1980, focused on patient/nurse/doctor interactions. It was the first such interactional hospital study done in India. I hope that the Library still has a copy of my book that I sent to them long ago. I have happily kept in touch via the CMC Newsletters.
Best wishes for the continuing success of CMC Medical College and Hospital.
